Next Day Courier
You have many different parcel courier options open to you when you need to send a parcel via a courier company. The most commonly used services would be the next day courier which is also known as a 24 hour delivery service, and the 2-3 days service which is also known as the 48 hour option with many suppliers. It is worth noting that with DHL in particular, the 48 hour parcel delivery services will most of the time get delivered with the 24 hour timescale. In fact, I would go as far as to say that over 95% of parcels booked on this service will be delivered the next day.
Of course, we are talking about UK parcel delivery services here; International Courier Services are a bit different. You will be able to get next day courier services for international parcels, but these are expensive and are mostly only ever used in emergency cases when you have an urgent package to send.
Either way, whichever of the services you choose, you must understand that these courier companies very rarely guarantee the collection of your parcel, or the delivery of it within the timescales indicated by the service. Again, you will need to hunt down a guaranteed service and pay extra for it if a guarantee is what you need. The most expensive of these would be a same day service where the package is simply collected from point A and driven directly to point B. A great service, but you will pay per mile so the further the parcel needs to go, the more it will cost. This is not the same with Next Day Courier services. Next Day Courier services are all collected during the day, filtered through the national distribution networks during the night, and then delivered out the next day. As they are carried on vehicles that follow a particular route each day, the courier organisations can offer a fixed price for delivery within the UK Mainland.
Next Day Courier services are a great way to send your packages and can give a professional impression of your business or company to your customers. There is something more special about receiving a parcel from a courier driver rather than from the post man or woman. In an odd way, it makes the recipient of the package feel more important. You also normally have the ability to offer the recipient a consignment number which will enable them to track their parcel on the Internet, another nice little addition to your customer service level giving your organisation a bit of an edge.
If you are an individual rather than a business, you can also benefit from using these services. Most serious eBay sellers use courier services rather than the post, and these are mainly individuals working from home. The most cost effective way for individuals and small businesses to use parcel couriers is via a reseller rather than going direct to the likes of Parcel Force or UK Mail for example. You can obtain a quote from two different resellers here and here.
To give you an idea of the size of some of these huge organisations, we have found a short video from DHL Canada for you to watch if you like.
